Skype crashes after login windows xp
Hi Administrator , i have encountered problem for windows xp Skype ver 7. Pls help!!! It says "Sorry, we couldn't connect you to Skype". I guess I have to buy a new PC since mine can't be upgraded. RIP Skype Classic You will always receive a Skype message stating ' You will need to update your OS to Windows 7 or higher to continue using Skype on the same device. As an technical support guy, info from this site saved me from headache for years, now time for redemption: For those who still need to use winxp willingly or unwillingly, open chrome, install the chrome extention, switch user agent to edge and windows, and you will able to login web skype now.
Thank you for sharing. Another way is to change user agent via command line. Stay in touch. I plan to publish detailed instructions soon. That solution works like a charm! I'm using the agent switcher mentioned below - it allows you to change the agent only on particular domain, so I've entered web. Unfortunately, Microsoft has disabled Skype 7 and users cannot use it anymore on any operating systems.
I have a problem with the new skype for web which I have thanks to yourselves. Had to look for something new as I still use windows XP SP3 32 bit and microsoft god bless them have decided that I should not be able to use skype 7 any more.
I am signing on using my old skype ident and password. This new skype works perfectly well in audio only BUT for video whenever some one tries to call me on video and I press the video icon top right of the new skype screen and without colour they are cut off. The same happens when I call them.
I have just been through your software requirements and I think I meet them all although I am unsure about the Windows Installer 4. I am using the latest possible Chrome browser for Windows XP which is the one you specify. What am I doing wrong please? I have since downloaded level 4.
Could THAT have been the problem? Any information would be very much appreciated. In short, logins via username and password are entirely broken since the day before yesterday, Both versions of Skype 7 7. The second step has followed on April 2 evenings when the parametric way was closed as well.
So now the Skype 7 login does not work at all. Once you sign out, you never sign in again now. Therefore we can expect this date as a deadline for Skype 7 working. And this will be the third step when all Skype 7 users will be signed out without any possibility to sign in again.
As far as the Skype 8, its web version is almost!!! The signing in, chat, sending files and video is fully functional. The only problem is the audio XP incompatibility, just the same problem as in the desktop Skype versions 7. The Maxthon browser on its Chrome core 61 tries till now to hold the XP compatibility. I have tested Skype 8 with its latest stable portable version 5. On my Win7 partition, all is O. If someone finds yet another XP working Chrome based browser, let us know.
I have contacted the Microsoft advisers regarding this audio problem but they recommend to upgrade the operating system. Then I have asked Maxthon advisers, and they complain about their hard work to preserve the Chrome core working on XP but they cannot guarantee the absolute full compatibility. So who could be helpful in this case? I think it is at this moment the only possible way how to continue using Skype on XP systems. Meaning, can we assume that this will happen for sure , or is this just speculation on your part?
Will that work? I would not expect any more updates from that update channel as it completely terminates in 13 days. Chrome ended support for XP nearly 3 years ago. I suspect that this is a matter of days, and not months. Regarding the Skype for web, a month ago there were still two versions; the old one on web. Now the old version was shut down, and both links open the same version 8.
Whereas the old version was accessible from many browsers, the new one requires either Edge and it means Win10 or the newest versions of Chrome based browsers. But the new web Skype does work neither on Mozilla core browsers like Seamonkey nor even the IE 11 on Win7 since they have no Chrome core. Alternatively, download Skype on your desktop computer. I would just need to check whether VoIP really works… As I said, I only tried logging in and sending text messages so far.
Unfortunately the Chrome core is necessary for Skype 8 for web running. I have made an experiment with adding Chrome support to general. I can login into my account, and even can successfully perform the audio test for speakers. But camera and microphone are not present and there is no toolbar option for the choice either to enable them for this one session or forever. However, there is a trick to set in about:config also media. Then both camera and microphone are recognized as well, only the camera preview window as appears in Maxthon is absent.
I was not sure if there is some XP incompatibility in Mozilla core, so I have repeated this experiment on my Win7 partition with the same negative result. I am afraid that only the Chrome browsers like Maxthon have a chance to run Skype 8 after the resolution of the XP audio incompatibility problem for higher versions of Chrome core. Hello, Trick with user agent works. Is there any way to make it work? I have just tested it on Firefox File transfer works for me, but only in one direction: from me to the person I talk.
When he sends me some files, I see them in the chat window, but cannot save them on my disk. When I start my camera, I see myself in a small window, but the person on the other side does not see me. The Mozilla core leads to very slow response by clicking any button: I have to wait at least ten seconds. Comparing to Maxthon on Win7, all Skype buttons on Maxthon respond immediately, all functions are perfectly working, including file transfer in both directions, and even video call recording.
I miss there only the share screen function, but it may be only the part of the desktop version so that in the web version was not included. No success. They all have the old core still XP compatible but Skype does not accept them. The only known browser preserving the XP compatibility with newest Chrome is Maxthon. However this compatibility is not complete and there are some issues like the audio recognition problem. Maybe when more people will exert pressure on Maxthon developers, they will be finally willing to find some remedy.
Hi thrawn, I used your script to run skype at windows XP and it worked well. I have it installed at 2 computers. Is it the end? Or we still can do something? Tried to reinstall skype, but no results. Oh lordy.. I can reproduce the problem for both Skype 7.
This may very well be it. Any chance of some type of hack which would allow Skype Version 8 on XP? Microsoft seems intent on converting everyone to Windows It was nice to be able to run Skype on these older platforms.
Wish Microsoft could move forward, but leave well enough alone for some of the older ones. I took a look at that yesterday actually, but Skype 8 is not trivial to backport to XP. I tried to install different Android emulators in order to try to use android version of skype at my PC, but all emulators require rather powerful machine and at least windows 7, so here my efforts were unsuccessful too.
The new version 6 is no longer supported on XP and 5. If you choose to use Linux maybe some Debian distribution as the guest operating system, you can continue to use Skype without being subject to any added software licensing costs.
Edit : I just tested it out of curiosity, and XP x64 users do indeed get preferential treatment with VirtualBox. The bit only version 6. I face Skype problems only at work where I have to use some old weak PC. I tried a lot of emulators and different versions, even old ones. Have no interest to experiment further with emulators and virtual machines.
We are just used to communicate via Skype with colleagues and some friends. So at work I use my smartphone for Skype or found out today Pidgin. This is a server side issue or exist any trick on client side to extend this period? I have not encountered such a problem myself as of yet. About language: I can also speak German fluently, if you prefer that.
I just commited the mistake that I didnt even know would be a mistake and log out from skype today. See here:. Skype 7. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Reminds me of what happened to [ avi ]. It seems that there are times where some unknown changes occur on the server side, blocking XP logins for a while just my assumption, no proof.
XP is connecting skype version 7. Do you have an alternative to solve? The link s to that version can be found in the main article above, see point 2. Hooowever, in todays test, Skype failed to connect for me. It appears, that Skype 7. This is a very recent change of things. Unfortunately, the current version of my launchSkype. There seems to be a bit of a language barrier. Anyway, the dialog asks you whether you want to update Skype.
Download and install Skype 8 maybe? No idea. I never tried it. I will need to adapt my launcher script for Windows 7, before this can work again. This will take a bit….
I have solved the problem. I have migrated the auto-generated VBScript code to similarily auto-generated Powershell code, which works on Windows 7 and newer. On top of Windows 7, this has also been tested to work with Windows 10 Pro x That updated launchSkype-NT As with the former launchSkype. Let me know if this works or if you have trouble adapting the script to your needs. Luckily though, this is only the case for Skype 7. It seems my script will never work again. Here you will find a folder named after your Skype user.
Enter it. In it, you can find a file config. That file can store your login data for automatic logins. You can copy it over the others to re-configure Skype for auto-login. You cannot transfer a stored Skype 8 login over to Skype 7, I already tried.
Edit: In this machine is with Skype 7 login saved in Windows XP, it connects more does not send message and the others do not see as online. Nothing older than v.
Mar 3, Win 7. Tried all the tricks available on the internet. Any solution to skype 7 not connecting? Could you try the classic XP version 7. You can grab that version of Skype either from [ here ] unpack with [ 7-Zip ] or directly from [ Microsoft ] and the launchSkype.
See the article for details on how to adapt and use the launcher script. To make sure, I just installed that version of Skype on a completely clean Windows XP bit VM that has never seen Skype before, and ran it with my script, and it logged me in without issues.
Are you trying this with or without my launchSkype. Ah, and you tried to re-send your comment more than once. If you hammer too much, you might get banned automatically.
Even if your browser times out when commenting, it usually goes through still, so no worries. If the problem occurs when Skype is trying to load the login screen, this will bypass that step entirely and fix all issues related to the graphical login part. I can guide you through the process of using the launcher script if you like, starting from the default version.
The only thing I would need to know is the exact location of Skype. They implemented a user-agent whitelist. However, you can fake your user agent with relative ease. Here you can see a ton of configuration properties after confirming the security prompt.
Now, your Firefox will impersonate Chrome Surf to the [ web version of Skype ] and be greeted by this:. I tried to log in, and yeah… it just works. Pretty much just a weak artificial obstacle that is easy to work around for now. That should work at least for now. Just re-download ] it again, unpack and launch via double-click. It should open a terminal window and prompt you for your Skype user name and password.
Now the terminal window should close, Skype should launch and log you in immediately. About the web version: No idea what went wrong for you there. Use the free and open source [ 7-Zip ] for.
Restart the browser and the property will be removed. The error message is quite strange, too. Just to make sure: You have Internet Explorer 8, right? Meaning no plugins, modifications or anything? Question is just what exactly it is. That could be it. Todor, 7. Thank you for the script, it was a great help for a while. Script works and I can log in and send messages, but not make and receive calls.
Are the Skype system calls like the microphone test call or a call to Skype Translator also affected in your case? Because those still work for me. It does still work for me. What are the symptoms? Are there any error messages? Once I break still unconnected call, other person gets note about missing my call.
When someone is calling me, it is the same. It could be because of Windows version I think it is WinXP Prof SP 3, but I am not near that computer now , because in past I had this problems at times, but it usually was temporary and in a week or two I suddenly found that I can make calls again.
I have the same problem with my parents — they use computer with Win XP and I try to speak with them from my Win10 laptop or android phone, but only chat is working. Hmm, like I said to Saioko, it still works for me. It logs me in, shows my contacts, and I can chat etc. Of course — as always — there are no guarantees that the same thing will continue to work for any given amount of time from here on out…. This solution worked for me after reinstalling my Windows XP Professional partition from a backup image.
After logging in with this solution, Skype has been logging me in automatically every time that I start the computer. I know it sucks, but please be patient with posting here. If you hit that button too often, my anti-spam systems might actually ban you, and I might sometimes not notice the false positives. Anyway, thank you for reporting back! I did not have any problems with skype 7. But from autumn Microsoft does not support Skype classic as they call it anymore.
I wonder if this solution will work now. I was looking for solution but already uninstalled my Skype. Well, you know waht i mean. I guess Microsoft did something to the server backend, so that the login screen once again works with the Internet Explorer 8 engine Skype is using on XP to display it:.
So this is actually no longer needed I guess. Back in August , another outage was partly blamed on Microsoft whose update patches were called "a catalyst" which triggered a series of events that led to the disruption of Skype. Desire Athow. Topics Out Of Office.
